The Secretary General of Amnesty International, Salil Shetty, Visits the now derelict, former Union Carbide plant in Bhopal, November 30, 2014
On 30th November 2014, Amnesty International Secretary General, Salil Shetty visited Bhopal. In 1984 an industrial catastrophe took place at a pesticide plant owned and operated by Union Carbide India Limited (UCIL) in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, India on December 3, 1984. 25,000 people are thought to have since died from gas related diseases.
People continue to suffer from health problems related to the incident and the subsequent pollution at the site.
